Built by Bishop Sostegno Maria Cavalli (1725-1747), modifying the previous fourteenth-century structures, visible inside, of the ancient palace of Bosone Raffaelli. Recent studies have shown that part of the Bishopric is built on the property of Mastro Giorgio Andreoli, the greatest majolica polisher of all time. In addition to the bishop's residence, the palace is home to the offices of the curia, the rich diocesan archive and the Fonti library.
